Did Ballmer just take the bullets out of those guns with one deft move?

Or did he just take away the principal exponent of gun culture? I’m not a Microsoft insider but it is commonly known that while brilliant, Sinofsky was very much the head of his own silo.  Now that Microsoft has all the pieces in place across all its divisions (divisions being a very appropriate name it would seem) it now needs to weave those pieces together to form a cohesive strategy. Yes, I guess this was always the plan but I am thinking it is going to be a whole lot easier now (!?)

I wish Stephen Sinofsky the best and look forward to seeing what he involves himself with next but I am even more excited to see what Microsoft will do next!
